Little bit of backstory:
Tezuka winced. The pain to his shoulder was too much, and he knew it was time to stop practicing. He hated it, that he couldn't play as hard or as long as he used to. That his shoulder injuries had set him back, limited the amount and intensity that he could play.
The pain made him remember what his doctor had said to him, back in high school after a particularly strenuous match and subsequent injury.
"Tezuka-kun. I know your tennis is important to you, which is why it pains me to say this. Your shoulder is badly damaged. The previous injuries, plus this one, have caused such problems that, if you're not careful, will interfere with everyday life. Before that happens...I have to recommend that you quit tennis."
Quit tennis. No. Not an option. He'd played right-handed before, and would again, if he truly needed to. He'd practice until he perfected every technique with both hands, if he had to, in attempt to be able to play as well with his right as he knew he could with his left.
It was that conversation that had had a surprising effect on Tezuka. The fact that he could still play at that point, and now, was all thanks to the doctors and therapists who had treated him after his injuries. Without them, he would've been forced to quit years ago. So in turn, Tezuka had changed the path of his future. Instead of going into Journalism as he'd wanted to, Tezuka had gone straight into Sports Medicine. At least with that, he could help injured athletes in situations similar to his own, and allow them to play for as long as possible.
With a sigh, Tezuka shook himself out of his reverie and gripped his racket with his right hand. He still had a long night ahead of him.
